Peterson, Kamela
I grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan and attended the Battle Creek Public Schools.  I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University.  The Sturgis Public Schools hired me fresh out of college in 1985.  I earned a Master of Arts degree in the Elementary Grades from Western Michigan University.  My coursework was heavy with Reading, English, and Science classes.  I have also aught the Children's Literature class at Glen Oaks Community College.
I met my husband, Tim, when he was hired as a new teacher at WallSchool in 1987.  We were married by the end of the school year.  He now works at Sturgis Middle School as a long term substitute in 6th grade Science. We live in Sturgis and have two wonderful children, Lydia and Avery.
Myfavorite pastime is spending time with my family doing almostanything.  We travel quite a bit.  We love the national parks in ourcountry and spend many of our vacations visiting them.  I enjoy readingand writing. (I think all teachers do!)  I also like to play tennis, canoe, hike, and feed the birds.
I am the Title I Reading teacher at Eastwood.  I work with students whoare not ready for grade-level standards.  We work in small groups of3-5 students.  The help I provide is specific to the needs of the child. The students with which I have the privilege to serve are inquisitive,hard-working, and smart.  We work together to build reading skills andself-confidence.
